With just a week to go until Father's Day, the race is on to commemorate the occasion with something that is Not Socks.
Here are some ideas for fun and original stuff that you can surprise the dad in your life with next Sunday, and a chance for new dads to get hold of some free chocolate and whiskey:
- A chocolate pizzaActually I would quite like one of these myself. How long is it till Mothers Day again?
- Some barbeque tools Then he can use his gift to make you all lunch. If he's a dodgy cook get him one of these.
- A tour of a distillery
Just be warned he might never come back
- A trip to TankfestThis festival at the end of June involves a weekend of living history and tank driving. Solid dad-style fun.
- His own helicopter
Ok, it's a toy. But I bet he loves it.
- Socks that don't smellIn emergencies, resort to classics with a twist.
And here are a couple of Father's Day competitions for anyone who's almost a dad:
Toblerone (surely the ultimate Dad-choc) are offering a free bar of the triangular stuff to the first 1000 expectant dads to email their baby's expected due date to this address. Pregnant mothers-to-be can also nominate their other half for this one.
And to celebrate Father's Day 2009, Glenfiddich is offering a bottle of its signature 12 Year Old whisky to every man in the UK who becomes a Dad on Father's Day itself, 21st June. To claim a bottle, the proud father simply has to send a scan of their newborn's birth certificate to this address.
All new dads who apply will automatically be entered into a draw to win an all expenses paid trip to the Glenfiddich distillery. There, the winning dad will even reserve a bottle of 21 Year Old, which he can pass on to his child on their 21st birthday. Or not, depending on how generous he's feeling.
