Baby Cut From Womb Discovered Alive

Baby Cut From Womb Discovered Alive

A baby who was cut from her mother's womb in a horrific murder has been discovered alive.

The baby girl's mother was found dead in a wardrobe at her home in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA, on Monday.

The miracle baby was later tracked down to a house in Plymouth, New Hampshire and is reported to be in "fairly good health" in hospital.

Two people were arrested over the killing of the mother, Darlene Haynes, who was eight months pregnant.

Julie Corey, 35, and a male companion Alex Dion, 27, were arrested after friends told police they were suspicious of Corey's sudden claims she had had a baby.

Staff at a homeless shelter also apparently raised the alarm after Corey turned up on Tuesday night.

She told shelter workers she was the mother and the baby was six days old, but could give no further details about the child.

Corey has been charged as a fugitive from justice and is being held in custody, while Dion was released.

Darlene, 23, is thought to have been dead for several days when her body was discovered.

It was not until a post-mortem on Tuesday that it emerged the baby was missing.

It has been reported that Darlene had three other children, One, an 18-month-old girl, is said to be in care following the murder while her grandmother is raising the other two.

She had intended to call her latest baby Sheila Marie.

It isn't yet clear what will become of the baby girl who had such a terrible entrance into the world, but here's hoping life gets better for her from here on in.

There have been a number of foetus abduction cases in the USA in recent years. It's a peculiarly American crime as no other cases have ever been reported outside of the States.

Lisa Montgomery, from Kansas, killed a woman in 2004 and cut the baby from her womb. She has now been sentenced to death.

Similar cases happened in Ohio in 2000, in California in 1998, and in Illinois in 1995. In all cases the babies survived.
