Celebrate Roald Dahl Day

Mark it in your calendar, this Sunday (13th September) is the fourth annual Roald Dahl day. Though in our house, every day is Roald Dahl day, as we can't get enough of the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The BFG, Matilda, George's Marvellous Medicine and all the rest.

And if you haven't got a calendar, that's no excuse, because you can download a free Roald Dahl one at this link. You can also download a free scrumdiddlyumptious activity pack at this link.

The day celebrates the late, great author's birthday. His work continues to be hugely popular, so much so that in October, Twentieth Century Fox will release a movie of Dahl's tale Fantastic Mr Fox, starring the voices of George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray and Jarvis Cocker.

There are events happening all around the country to celebrate the day, find out what's happening in your region at this link.

And if you've got a Roald Dahl fan in the family, I really recommend a trip to the dedicated museum and story centre in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire.

Also, around 10 miles up the road in Aylesbury, there's a second Roald Dahl children's gallery, which is also worth a visit. This time the emphasis is on science, with lots of hands on experiments for kids to try out. More details here.

Felicity Dahl, Roald Dahl's widow, says of the day: "I can hardly believe that the FOURTH Roald Dahl Day celebrations are already being planned. The original idea was for a one-off celebration but we were overwhelmed by the response from around the UK. I know Roald would have been touched and thrilled by this continuing affection for his work."
