Police Rescue Newborn Baby From Toilet

Police turned up at a woman's home to arrest her - only to find that she had just given birth into the toilet.

Officers fished the unconscious baby boy out from the toilet bowl and performed CPR, reviving the infant.

The mother, Heather Richard, from Winnipeg, Canada, did not even know she was pregnant until the baby arrived.

She had gone into the bathroom with stomach pains just before police arrived to arrest her on outstanding warrants.

The two street crimes officers arrived to find the bloody scenes and reacted quickly to save the baby boy.

Miss Richard told the Winnipeg Sun that the baby "just fell out". She said: "I thought it was my intestines, so I'm freaking out. But then it's a little boy."

I expect she was then freaking out even more.

The little boy weighed five pounds nine ounces and was taken to hospital in a critical condition.

He had a skull fracture which he was likely to have sustained when his head hit the toilet.

However police say the baby is now in a stable condition and should recover.

In case you're wondering, police did not arrest the mother there and then - she will have to deal with theft charges at a later date.

Miss Richard told the Winnipeg Sun she had had three miscarriages and had been told by doctors she would not be able to have children.

"I'm still in shock. I'm not supposed to have kids," she said.

It's a good job the police turned up when they did. But it's not a great entrance to the world for the little boy. Let's hope his life improves from now on...
