Teacher Cuts Off Pupil's Plait

Teacher Cuts Off Pupil's Plait

A teacher in Milwaukee, USA, reportedly cut off the plait of one of her pupils after the seven-year-old kept playing with her hair.

First-grader Lamya Cammon was apparently told to stop playing with her hair and when she kept on doing it, the teacher took matters into her own hands.

The little girl told her local TV channel, News 12, that the teacher called her over to the desk and said she was going to give her sweets.

Then the teacher cut the braid off and threw it in the bin in front of the whole class, says Lamya, leaving the little girl in tears.

She says the teacher asked her: "Now what you gonna go home and say to your momma?" to which she replied, "That you cut off my hair."

You can watch Lamya tell her story here.

Lamya's mother, Helen Cunningham, says the teacher has apologised and explained that she did what she did because she was "frustrated".

But the mother has questioned whether the teacher should be allowed to keep her job. "Why would we want someone like this teaching our kids?" she asks.

The local school district would not comment on the details of the case but an apology was made.

Apparently the district attorney has decided not to press charges, but police gave the teacher a $175 fine for disorderly conduct.

"Teacher stress" is a growing problem, according to the news report.

I know seven-year-olds can be a bit annoying at times but this is going too far, isn't it? Should this teacher keep her job? What would you do if this happened to your daughter?
