How many times have you hit the shops for a child's birthday only to despair over what to get them? Over the past few years I've gone through this a dozen times, and it usually ends up with me buying a voucher.

However, one option that's become popular over the past few years is to pop online and order them a personalised book, completely tailored to the birthday boy or girl, which is completely unique.

Here are five websites for personalised books for children. offers books that not only feature the name of your offspring, but also their image. So you can tell them the story of a trip to a zoo, whilst a cheeky snapshop of them pops up on each page.

Identity Direct have an assortment of books, but the colouring books (£9.99) are particularly appealing for the very young. Each page displays your child's name.

Pen Wizard has some Noddy books (£14.99) that can be customised by name, hair colour, skin tone and eye colour, so you can create a cartoon version of your child.

Disney fans will adore the range of books from Buy a Gift, including the Toy Story 2 option above.

Finally, Star Stories creates an actual caricature of your son or daughter, which is displayed on the front cover.
