Mum Arrested For Murder After Walking Into Police Station With Son's Body

A woman has been arrested on suspicion of murder after she walked into a police station carrying the lifeless body of her two-year-old son.

The unnamed 39-year-old walked into Peterlee police station in County Durham shortly before 8am this morning.

The Northern Echo said the child was not responsive and an ambulance was immediately called for. He was rushed to Sunderland Royal Hospital where, despite the efforts of medical staff, he was confirmed dead shortly after arrival.

A post mortem examination is due to take place later to establish the cause of death for the little boy, who has not been named by police. Police have said the woman was arrested on suspicion of the boy's murder, due to injuries on the child's body. She is now being held in custody at the same police station.

A Skoda Octavia car, thought to be the vehicle used by the child's mother, was found parked outside the police station and has been taken away for forensic analysis.
