Diary Of A 5-Year-Old: A "Lonely" Child

I haven't got brothers or sisters. I'm what grown ups call "a lonely child". It's okay because I have a dog and I don't have to share anything with him if I don't want to. My friend Emily has a brother called Jonas and she has to share everything with him. Jonas is quite a lot bigger than Emily and sometimes he's mean. Emily says it's good being the littlest though because he is usually the one who gets into trouble, especially if she cries a lot. I think that's what makes Jonas angry.

Emily's mummy and daddy are having another baby soon too! We don't know where it came from but it's in Emily's mummy's tummy. You can even see it. She is really fat and sometimes you can see it move in there. I think maybe she ate it. Emily is happy about another baby but she told me she would really rather have a puppy. That's a secret though.

I don't think I would be excited. Our next door neighbours have a baby too. All it does is cry and cry and cry and then it's mummy sings to it and that sounds worse than the crying. And it seems to leak at the top and the bottom and it can't even talk properly.

Emily says their house won't be big enough for the new baby so they might have to move to another one.

But I reckon the baby will follow them anyway.
