What first attracts you to a man? His twinkly blue eyes, gorgeous smile or the colour of his shirt? Well, apparently, wearing a red shirt is like waving a red rag to a bull where us women are concerned.
Researchers asked 55 women to look at men dressed in either a red or green shirt. Then, using a nine-point scale, they answered three questions: "How attractive do you think this person is?" "How pleasant is this person to look at?" and "If I were to meet the person in this picture face to face, I would think he is attractive."
Women rated the men dressed in red over one point more attractive than their green-shirted rivals and also more desirable, according to a second measure on how likely it would be that they would want to have sex with him.
A separate study found that men wearing red T-shirts are seen to be higher in status than those wearing blue.
