Catwalk Review: Caroline Charles S/S 2011

PA

DESIGNER: Caroline Charles

INSPIRATION: Sleek 1950s glamour, with enough gloved hands, flicked eyeliner and poise to make models look like they had just stepped out of an Avedon shoot.

TOP LOOKS: A ladylike waisted sheath dress in painted bold floral and wide-brimmed hat, a neatly tailored ivory skirt suit with a cinching black patent belt and white leather gloves, a leopard print shift.

ACCESSORIES: Coordinating leather gloves, pill box and wide-brim straw hats, oodles of diamonds and pearls and prim kitten heels.

WHAT WE THOUGHT: Charles knows exactly how to push her customers` buttons - and this season she did it with a hefty dose of retro elegance. In places she missed the mark and ladylike styling became a touch mother of the bride, but the prim shifts in dazzling prints and classic tailoring in summery pales will be perfect for next summer´s garden parties.
