Thanks to the likes of models such as Lara Stone and Georgia May Jagger, more and more women are giving up on their quest for the perfect set of pearly white teeth and pursuing a more natural look – complete with gaps and quirks.
In the US, where perfect Hollywood smiles have always been big business, wannabe models are now resorting to having gaps inserted into their teeth.
Dr Marc Lowenberg, a cosmetic dentist in Manhattan, told the New York Times: "The white standard got too white. The perfection standard got too perfect."
Vincent Devaud, a ceramist from Pasadena in California, added: "What makes a person desirable and attractive? It's not the symmetry ; it's perfect imperfections."
