Want to transform your hair for the Christmas party but don't fancy going for the chop? Then take a tip from the red-carpet regulars who need to look glamorous every week of the year, and book yourself in for a blow-dry.

Kelly's big blow-out

Ask your stylist for a big mane of voluminous waves. Rollers can be used to achieve the big bouncy curls. To recreate the look at home, use a volumising product on damp hair then dry with a large round brush or set with large curlers and finish with a holding spray. We love James Brown London Volumising Mousse, £5.99, because it adds shine too for an ultra-glossy finish like Kelly's.

Anne's easy updo

Ask your stylist for a modern take on the classic Audrey Hepburn French roll, being clear that you want a softer, less structured look with loose tendrils framing the face. To create the look at home, style your hair the day after it has been washed so that it is more pliable. Gather all your hair into a side ponytail then wrap the hair back under itself pinning it under as you go. Pull out a few loose strands at the front and finish with a spritz of hairspray.

Kimberley's cascading curls

This look takes its inspiration from the classic glamour of the 40s and 50s. Ask your stylist to tong your hair into loose but slightly structured curls. Tell them to think classic Hollywood screen starlets such as Veronica Lake. To recreate the look at home, wrap large sections (one to two inches wide) around large-barrelled tongs starting from ear level. Finish with a hairspray to set the look.

If all else fails, print off this image and take it to your salon!
