American comedian Chris Rock played midwife to an expectant mum when she went into labour in the middle of a bustling shopping mall in New Jersey.
The unnamed woman's labour started unexpectedly as she stepped off an escalator in the Garden State Plaza mall.
The comedian - voted the fifth greatest stand-up of all time by Comedy Central - was shopping in the nearby Neiman Marcus department store when the drama unfolded. He came to the woman's aid by telling her jokes and distracting her until the emergency services arrived.
An eyewitness told US Weekly: 'He was making the crowd and the woman in labour laugh. She recognized who he was immediately and he stayed there until the paramedics took her away.'
Chris, 45, is father to daughters Lola Simone, eight, and Zahra Savannah Alpine, six, and is married to his wife of 14 years, Malack Compton-Rock.
