Christmas party season is finally in full swing which means it is not only acceptable, but full on, almost compulsory to celebrate with a couple of cocktails or two.

The more outlandish and ridiculous the better, after all Christmas only comes once a year. Enjoy these little jewels and drink to your good health before the dreaded January de-tox kicks in...,feedConfig,localizationConfig,entry&id=961206&pid=961205&uts=1291732896

Christmas cocktails


60 ml ginger beer


15 ml ginger juice

45 ml dark rum

4 ml cinnamon schnapps

Pinch ground cloves

1 egg white

1 cinnamon stick

Crystallised ginger square

Finely ground gingerbread cookie


Pour enough ginger beer into a saucer to cover and dip a martini glass into the saucer to coat the rim.

Then dip the martini glass into a saucer of ground cookie.

Scoop ice into shaker.

Pour ginger juice, rum and cinnamon schnapps into a shaker.

Add a pinch of ground cloves.

Separate an egg and add egg white to shaker.

Shake vigorously for at least 20 seconds until drink is frothy and foamy.

The longer you shake, the foamier the drink. Add ginger beer and stir slightly.

Pour into glass.

Garnish with a cinnamon stick and crystallised ginger square, and sprinkle the top with finely ground gingerbread cookie.

For the infusion:

50 g fresh mint leaves, de-stemmed

1 bottle quality vodka

For the cocktail:

1 tbs crushed candy cane or peppermint candy

45 ml mint infused vodka

8 ml B&B (Benedictine and Brandy)

15 ml Half-and-half (can be substituted with 7.5 ml whole milk and 7.5 ml single cream)


Peppermint stick

Mint sprig for garnish


For the infusion:

Thoroughly wash mint leaves and place in a decanter or jar. Empty vodka into a container and crush slightly to release the essential oils.

For the cocktail:

Place crushed candy cane bits into pint glass.

Crush the candy cane slightly, breaking up the bigger pieces.

Add vodka, brandy and half-and-half and stir.

Pour into a shaker with ice.

Shake lightly to chill and strain into a glass full of ice.

Add a peppermint stick and stir.

Garnish with a mint sprig.

60 ml silver rum

15 ml amaretto, almond flavoured liqueur

15 ml Luxardo or cherry liqueur


Wedge of lime

Splash of maraschino cherry juice

Maraschino cherry for garnish


Pour rum, amaretto and cherry liqueur in a cocktail shaker with ice.

Shake until ingredients are well combined and chilled.

Pour into a highball glass filled with ice. Squeeze a lime wedge over drink and drop into glass.

Add a pour of cherry juice and garnish with a maraschino cherry.

5 raspberries, fresh or frozen

15 ml chocolate liqueur

15 ml hazelnut liqueur

90 ml Guiness or stout beer

90 ml Champagne or sparkling wine

Raspberry for garnish


In a pint glass, crush 5 raspberries.

Add the chocolate and hazelnut liqueurs and crush again. Add stout beer and pour into a champagne flute.

Pour champagne or sparkling wine over the back of a spoon into the glass to top off the drink.

Garnish rim with a fresh raspberry.

Sugar to rim glass

45 ml Limoncello

25 ml orangle flavoured vodka

Juice of 3 lime wedges



Dip a cocktail glass into a saucer of water to rim.

Roll glass rim in sugar to coat.

Pour limoncello and vodka into shaker with ice.

Squeeze and add three lime wedges into shaker.

Fill cocktail glass with ice.

Strain drink into glass.
