The cynical among us might think it's a statement of the obvious, but Texas researchers claim men are more likely to forgive a cheating female partner if she's unfaithful with another woman.
Published in the journal Personality and Individual Differences, the study suggests half of men would be willing to overlook their wives' or girlfriends' affairs - as long as they didn't sleep with another man. And guess what? According to the experts the reason is that men are less threatened by a female love rival than a male, because there's a chance they might end up bedding both the partner and her lover. Tell us something we don't know.
While 50 said they would do the same if their wife or girlfriend had been with another man.
Women, on the other hand, aren't quite so forgiving when their male partners cheat with a guy. Surprisingly 28 said they'd stay with him if he cheated with a man.
Of course the survey, which involved 718 people, involved hypothetical situations, with volunteers asked to imagine what they would do if their partner had been unfaithful.
In real-life situations, however, people often behave quite differently to how they think (or say) they would. And in this particular study, when asked what had actually happened when a partner had been caught having an affair, the researchers discovered that the men were far more likely than the women to have called time on the relationship.
Has your partner ever cheated on you? Did you forgive them?
