It's official. From the gowns to the lipstick, red was the colour of the night at the 2011 Academy Awards.

Leading the ladies in red was the show's co-host, Anne Hathaway. She teamed her Valentino gown with a matte, scarlet shade on the lips. The bold colour complimented her porcelain skin perfectly, and with a slick of eyeliner on the upper lid, Hathaway's red on red look was a real winner.

Helen Mirren followed suit with her lipstick choice too. She chose a lighter, glossy shade to contrast with her metallic Vivienne Westwood gown. She kept her look fresh with bronzed cheeks and a touch of highlighter around the eyes.

Sandra Bullock landed a place on the best dressed list in a red, Vera Wang gown, however, her ensemble wouldn't have been complete without her perfect pout. She chose a softer shade with a rose tint to bring out her glowing look.

Finally, Sharon Stone showed how red lips can transform an outfit. Her bold eyeliner and dark lip colour gave a dramatic edge to her feathered gown.
