An eight-year-old boy was mown down and killed when two garage mechanics allegedly took a customer's Porsche out for a spin.
Ryan Fleming from Heybridge in Essex was crossing the road with a pal when the £70,000 silver Porsche 911 Carrera hit him.
The car's 31-year-old driver and 18-year-old passenger were reportedly workers at a Kwik Fit garage, where the car had been left by its owner for repair.
The garage was just 200 yards from the spot where Ryan was knocked down. The little boy was rushed to hospital with head and pelvic injuries but could not be saved.
David White, customer services director at Kwik Fit, said: 'Our deepest sympathies are with Ryan's family at this tragic time.
'We are helping the police with their enquiries and in addition a senior management team has travelled to Maldon to carry out our own investigation.
'Until we have both the police and our team have completed their investigations we cannot make further comment, other than to assure Ryan's parents and family that we are doing everything we can.'
The driver and passenger - both from Essex - were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and aggravated vehicle taking and have been bailed until April.
