A toddler has been mauled by a Japanese Akita dog in Hailsham, East Sussex.
The two-year-old boy is in hospital being treated for facial injuries.
The youngster was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital after the dog - the family's pet - attacked him on Wednesday night.
A Sussex Police spokeswoman said the dog had been destroyed.
The family's local neighbourhood police representative Tony Wakefield said:
'Although this was clearly a traumatic incident for the child and his family, this appears to be an isolated incident which occurred within the family home. The family voluntarily agreed for the dog, which had not previously shown any aggression towards the family or the public, to be destroyed immediately.'
