I knew she had beaten James Blake and The Vaccines to the Brits' Critics' Choice award late last year, been voted No.1 in the BBC's Sound of 2011 poll, and worn a wild looking catsuit to the BRIT nominations in January (not dissimilar to the one Cher wore while straddling a cannon in her video for Turn Back Time). But that is where my knowledge of the 22-year-old started and ended until earlier this month.
I was driving to the airport to fly off to Australia's Got Talent auditions on the Gold Coast when I first heard the single Price Tag on the radio and yes, by the time the chorus rolled around for the second time, it was: "Woahhhh, I love this song!!!" It had me singing along at the top of my lungs and getting some seriously raised eyebrows from my manager Mel and all the drivers of the cars that had the misfortune of stopping next to me at the traffic lights.
From a style perspective I see Jessie J as a bit of a British Rihanna and I can't wait to check out what she's going to rock out on the red carpet next. And, if the YouTube clip I watched of her singing an acoustic version of Price Tag on Later With Jools Holland is anything to go by, she a woman with a killer live vocal!
