Couple Risk Lives To Prevent Car Jacker Taking Baby

A young couple put their lives at risk to prevent a car jacker stealing their car with their six-month-old baby strapped in the back. CCTV footage recorded Melanie Richman, 24, and her husband Aaron, 22, being dragged along by the vehicle as they tried to free their infant daughter after the thief pounced when they stopped for petrol in Kansas City.

The footage shows them next to their car as the car jacker walks into view. The couple then move out of shot and the suspect makes an immediate move for the vehicle. He drives the 1997 Pontiac Grand Am off the forecourt with the baby still strapped in the back seat.

The frantic parents run towards the car, with Melanie smashing the passenger side window with her elbow in a bid to gain access - she then falls and gets dragged along the road a few feet before she lets go. Her husband manages to jump in through the passenger window and starts hitting and kicking the thief and screaming at him that the baby is still in the car.

The driver then crashes and flees on foot.

The couple, who were in the midst of a house move from Colorado to Missouri, both suffered cuts and bruises after the incident. The baby was unharmed.

Police were still hunting for the carjacker last night.
