Holed Glory: Is Balmain Flag-Print Tee 'A Disgrace'?

Holed Glory: Is Balmain Flag-Print Tee 'A Disgrace'?

Across the pond a silk tank top is causing a big stink.

The top forms part of Balmain's spring collection and - in the fashion house's signature rock style - features an American flag design peppered with burn holes and safety pins.

The design, one of Christophe Decarnin's last for the fashion house, has sparked outrage amongst patriots.

Retired soldier George Alatzas told the New York Post: " I think it is a disgrace for a Frenchman or anyone else to desecrate the American flag.

"Our flag has witnessed many sacrifices. It is the glue that holds our patriotism together. Shame on those who defile it in any way."

Not everyone shares this view though - despite the hefty $1395 price tag the top sold out within minutes on Net-a-Porter!

A quick peep at the site from here in the UK shows that size 38 (that's a UK size 10) is still available for £845 if you're feeling both rebellious and affluent.

If you love the tee but not the price you could also create your own version using this American flag print vest by Tee and Cake on the Topshop website - a snip at £18.

Add some holes and safety pins et voila!
