A 26-year-old religious education teacher who confessed to a colleague that she had slept with one of her pupils has been struck off the teachers' register.

Erin La Porte, who taught religious education at Princes Risborough School in Buckinghamshire, was struck off indefinitely by the General Teaching Council after admitting she'd had sex with the pupil during her year-long employment at the school.

The shocked colleague who she confessed her sordid secret to reported her to the school's headteacher Pete Rowe. Police were called in to investigate the claims, but no action was taken against La Porte.

The General Teaching Council said striking her off was the only option as she might repeat her behaviour if she was allowed to continue teaching.

Her former boss, Pete Rowe, said he was 'satisfied' with the outcome, whilst the committee said:

'This was a serious instance of unacceptable professional conduct where a lesser sanction is not appropriate. The conduct is fundamentally incompatible with Ms La Porte continuing to be a registered teacher. Given the lack of insight demonstrated by Ms La Porte, the committee is not satisfied that she does not pose a significant risk of repeating the behaviour.'
