Rebekah Brooks Arrested, Milly Dowler's Family Solicitor Mark Lewis And MP Chris Bryant Skeptical Of Timing

The timing of former News International Chief Executive Rebekah Brooks’s arrest “stinks”, the solicitor representing Milly Dowler’s family has said.

Brooks was arrested on Sunday two days before she was due to appear in front of the parliament at the culture media and sport select committee.

The Dowler family solicitor Mark Lewis told Sky News: “The timing, the timing stinks”.

He added: “I think it’s an incredible bit of timing I think it gives this impression that those questions can’t be answered...

"It looks deliberate I’m sorry about that but it looks deliberate.”

MPs have also questioned the timing of Brooks’ arrest, with Chris Bryant telling Sky News that it was “unusual”.

The Labour MP said: "I think this is rather odd timing, to happen on a Sunday and to happen just two days before her appearance.

"Maybe the police are trying to protect evidence, but plenty of people will be saying, 'This is an opportunity for her to get out of saying things to the Culture Committee.'"

Mr Bryant added: "It's good news that clearly the news Metropolitan police investigation and the new assistant commissioner's doing a thorough job - a job incidentally that should have been done in 2006."

It will be interesting to see if the British Conservative Establishment is wily enough to save its posterior with smoke and mirrors here, or whether the British public will call them to account, and not let them slide out of it this time.

Do you think anything will happen to anyone with this? I don't. News Corp is too big to fail and this is nothing compared to what other corporations got away with and still do get away with. There is no such thing as justice if you have enough money. A slap on the wrist won't hurt more than a few seconds.

She was only held for 12 hours and is back out, so I assume that will mean she needs to report on Tuesday. Can't wait to see what happens.

What is going on?

Who are the police protecting?

This is certainly not an act that can be deemed as in the process of justice. As Dowler family lawyer, Mark Lewis, correctly diagnosed, this whole saga really stinks.

It looks like the powers that be, through the connivance of another collaborator, the police, is trying to cover their a*s. If Rebekah spills her beans, the repercussion can well be a devastating tsunami in the corridors of power.

Not just the people of Britain, but people all over the world deserve a genuine, credible open-book inquiry into this criminal scandal by the Murdoch media empire.

...a rotton stench, indeed, interlude! i am certain that murdoch and his henchmen/women were involved in exactly the same kind of "exploits" here in the USA as in the UK. afterall, we're talking about a fairly successful run of industrial level phone-hacking which likely means that those "best practices" employed in the UK were most likely brought over to the USA. and, judging the Fox News' behavior over the past several years (as well as the NY Post), it will only be a matter of time before the rotton stench of which you speak starts stinking up their joints here...! it's just a matter of time!

For me, this is last straw as to whether justice will be done anywhere on Earth. I crave for any kind of justice, since I haven't been witnessing any of it here in America.

Just as soon as Eric Holder takes on Bush and Cheney, we'll be seeing the beginning of justice in America.
But we'll have to wait until hell freezes over before that happens.
04:22 on 18/07/2011
I believe Mr. Holder has some problems of his own, research Fast and Furious....further, all parties you mentioned are beholden to the same elite power structure and they do not convict each other, sorry......

This is starting to look bigger than Watergate. There's a rotten stench emanating from everything Murdoch has touched.

"two days before she was due to appear in front of the parliament at the culture media and sport select committee", yes, the good news for her is it removes her from getting asked questions that she does not want to answer. And maybe her boss does not want her to answer either. You have to wonder how much of this is also that the police do not want her answering certain questions....

I wonder if Brooks might be "suicided," now that she has been summonsed before the Parliament.

Sir

It is, of course, easy to see conspiracy theories where none exist. However one interesting facet of this sorry saga has been to watch how the various parties have been anxious not to blow the whistle, for fear of having the whistle blown on them.

The politicians’ pandering to the press barons is nothing new, we have all witnessed it for many years. With the exception of Gordon Brown, however, most of the UK politicians are now being careful not to throw any mud at each other. There are calls for “bi-partisan” behaviour which, frankly, smack of self serving.

There are no doubt several interested parties who will be relieved if Ms. Brooks will not be able to testify before the parliamentary hearing this week.

Perhaps Mr. Mark Lewis has a point.

Sincerely, Derek Lantin. http://dereklantin.booksabuzz.com

I suppose in UK the police also swing right and have been systematically protecting their dear hen-pecked authoritarian ideology - and anyone who appears to be on 'their side'...

The Parliament MP's will be able to question her to their hearts content when they too are arrested and behind bars.
