Ricky Gervais Considers NBC Offer To Host Golden Globe Awards For Second Time

PRESS ASSOCIATION -- The Office star Ricky Gervais could return to host the Golden Globes despite his controversial performance at the Hollywood awards ceremony earlier this year.

The sharp-tongued comic tackled Scientology and gay celebrities pretending to be straight, claimed Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp were only nominated to ensure they would come to the ceremony in January and introduced Bruce Willis as Ashton Kutcher's father.

He also made a crack about the event's organisers, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, taking bribes and took swipes at Mel Gibson, Playboy founder Hugh Hefner and Paul McCartney's ex-wife Heather Mills.

Speaking at the Media Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival, he said: "NBC have offered me it, they think they can swing the Hollywood Foreign Press."

The star said he is "considering" the offer and admitted he did not expect the reaction he got after his appearance, which was branded "tasteless" and "corrosive" by the US press.

He said: "Do I entertain the 200 people in the room or the 200 million people watching round the world? You know these people have got enough. It wasn't a room full of wounded soldiers, it was the most privileged people on the planet who spend all day pretending to be someone else."

Gervais also revealed he had been approached about hosting the Oscars but said he thought it would be too "stuffy" for his act.
