There's nothing new about this. Thirty years ago as an office temp I typed up a double-blind study of zinc gluconate. The protocol was to grind up 2 tablets, mix them with water, and gargle every 6 hours. The people who stuck with the program had their colds end in under 48 hours. The problem was that the taste was so horrible people would rather have the cold. I've used it many times and it works, but it still tastes bad. So do the lozenges and the throat spray. The spray is too expensive and the nozzle clogs up. I haven't tried the nasal spray because the original study noted that nasal sprays with zinc ate holes in the septum. The study concluded with the note that the best way to make it marketable was to find a way to numb the taste buds. I never heard anything more about that so I assume it failed.
