Matthew McConaughey To Get Stuck Into 'Mud' With Reese Witherspoon

Matthew McConaughey is in talks to star opposite Reese Witherspoon in new drama Mud.

Star Trek's Chris Pine had previously been reported to be in line to star in the film, written and directed by Take Shelter's Jeff Nichols, but now Deadline.com reports Matthew, Reese and Tree of Life's Tye Sheridan are being lined up for the lead roles.

The film tells the story of a charismatic fugitive called Mud, who forms an unlikely friendship with a 14-year-old boy set on trying to help him escape the authorities and his bounty hunters so he can be reunited with his soulmate Juniper.

McConaughey and Witherspoon, who are known for their romantic comedy roles, are set to play Mud and Juniper.

Everest Entertainment are financing and co-producing the film.

Founder Lisa Maria Falcone said: "Jeff Nichols has written a beautiful story with rich characters learning valuable lessons through life-changing circumstances. With Jeff's vision, this will be a work of art.

"It's an incredible script which Jeff, along with Matthew McConaughey, Reese Witherspoon and Tye Sheridan, will bring to life. We've been privileged to work with incredible filmmakers like Danny Boyle, Tom McCarthy and Rodrigo Garcia and are thankful to add Jeff Nichols to that list."
