PRESS ASSOCIATION -- The killer of British policewoman Yvonne Fletcher could be brought to justice as Muammar Gaddafi's grip on Libya crumbles, a Cabinet minister has said.

International Development Secretary Andrew Mitchell believes the revolution taking place in the North African country could lead to the gunman responsible for the "outrageous crime" being held accountable.

"There is no question whatsoever that, following a free Libya under the transitional control of the NTC (National Transitional Council), that is an issue the British Government will want to pursue with the new Libyan authorities," Mr Mitchell told BBC Radio 4.

"I am reasonably confident that a judicial process designed to bring that heinous crime to court would indeed take place."

WPc Fletcher died in 1984 when diplomats at the Libyan embassy in London opened fire on a demonstration outside.

No-one was ever charged with her killing and suspects from inside the embassy were allowed to flee the UK.

I would imagine that the individual in charge of security would have been the one who gave the orders and ultimately the one responsible.

Wayhay! Rather late than never. It would be poetic justice. Or karma. Or: good things come to those who wait.
