Cheap HP Touchpads: To Buy Or Not To Buy?

HP's August 18 bombshell announcement that it would kill off the HP TouchPad tablet has sent tech bargain hunters out onto the street. The abandoned tablet has been drastically reduced just two months after launch. So should you buy one and where, if anywhere, can you get one at a low price?

A report prepared for The Huffington Post US says no. Tablets are all about apps, and no additional apps will be developed for the short-lived HP TouchPad, unless you can make it run Android yourself.

In the UK, Currys and PC World were selling the HP Touchpad 16gb model for £89 from today, August 21st 2011.

In London's Tottenham Ct Road, electrical stores had HP Touchpad tablets from £89, though most stores were sold out by 11am.

DSG were sell the device at a reduced price from 6pm on August 20th, though no stock was listed on their sites on August 21st.

The jettisoned gadgets were still available on Amazon.co.uk at £488 for the 32gb and £413 for the 16GB. Tesco are still selling the tablets at £429 for 32gb and £349 16gb.

DabsDotcom tweeted reassurances to customers saying 'If you have received an order confirmation email for your HP TouchPad, then your order has been placed and accepted.'

Have you bought a TouchPad? Did you get a deal or do you feel ripped off? What are you going to do with yours once there's no more apps or tech support?
