X Factor Star Kitty Brucknell Receives Death Threats

Loud X Factor hopeful Kitty Brucknell has become the latest contestant on the ITV singing contest to receive death threats.

Security has been stepped up since the quirky Britney Spears impersonator told producers about her online torment.

The reality TV hopeful told The Sun newspaper: "I have had death threats on the internet. People don't like confidence."

The singer, who wowed the judges by belting out Lady Gaga's Edge Of Glory before being voted through to the next round, said: "I hope people write better things about me."

A Facebook page set up to discredit the singer urges users to "spread the word" to get "more Kitty haters" while posting offensive criticisms of her.

X Factor bosses have confirmed they are looking into the threats. A spokesman said: "The welfare and safety of contestants is of paramount importance."

Brucknell is not the first X Factor contestant to receive death threats after appearing on the show.

Last year police were called into investigate cyber death threats against Katie Waissel after social networking sites, including Twitter and Facebook, were awash with sinister messages about the singer.

Even former X Factor judge Cheryl Cole found herself receiving death threats when she didn't put Gamu Nhengu through to the live shows round of the programme, instead controversially choosing Cher Lloyd and Katie Waissel.
