34-Year-Old Man Arrested By Phone Hacking Detectives

Detectives investigating the News of the World phone hacking scandal have arrested a 34-year-old man on suspicion of conspiracy to intercept voice mails.

The arrest was made by appointment at around 12:20 on Friday afternoon at a north London police station.

The man's name has not yet been released.

Police released a short statement saying: "Today (Friday 2 September) at approx 12.20hrs, officers from Operation Weeting arrested a man ('M') by appointment on suspicion of conspiracy to intercept voicemail messages, contrary to Section1(1) Criminal Law Act, and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The man, aged 34, was arrested by appointment at a north London police station. He currently remains in police custody."
