China will do the most damage, once they are up to speed. We will follow suit because, "they are taking our jobs."

After we lose a couple astronauts things will change. You know how we roll, willful ignorance until we can't pretend a problem exist.

As seems to be usual when discussing the problems of space debris, the authorities only mention the threat it poses to other operational equipment in orbit. They do not acknowledge the fact that it is also a serious threat to everything here on our planet Earth and that includes you and me. Space debris or junk does not all burn up when it re-enters the atmosphere, quite a large amount is able survive the passage of friction and impact many points around the globe at high velocity and on a regular daily basis. The specialists always quote the term burn-up as if by some magic the space debris vanishes, yet they know this is untrue. We, the ordinary public should be demanding investigations into this aspect. Lots of the junk is down to dead launcher parts and outdated, worn out hardware. Why could this not be designed from the outset with some kind of "push" system for end-of-life?
A quick de-orbit burn once it comes to the end of its useful life, to head down and burn up harmlessly. Or is that too much like a simple solution for the tenured high salary types clogging up the space industry?

NASA need not be overly concerned.
China will soon dominate orbital space and clutter will be their problem.
NASA will launch into orbit under contract with them or as they've begun to do now, with Russian rockets.
Their concerns are most likely based upon a military desire to demonstrate and test anti- satelite weapons.
In any case, the sun has begun to set. All the basic components of any NASA device are made of parts and metals from China.

"In June, some debris narrowly missed the space station, forcing its six crew to go to their escape capsules and prepare for an emergency evacuation back to Earth."

It's karmic junk, too.

Wow, what a surprise! We messed up the Earth, we all see how that's going, and now we're messing up space, too, and are SURPRISED that this is a problem. Have we really learned that little? Sheesh.

I find it ironic that we've not only committed to destroying our planet, but taking outer space along with it.

Yeah, we really need to find a better way to deal with the debris of what we put into space. It seems odd, but there is only a finite amount of space in Low Earth Orbit, and mismanaging it is not to the benefit of anyone.

Space junk: something else the GOP can claim doesn't exist, and even if it does, we don't have the money to do anything about it.
