Duchess Of Cornwall Joins Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy To Tour Schools

Duchess And Poet Laureate Join Forces To Promote Poetry

PRESS ASSOCIATION -- The Duchess of Cornwall will join the Poet Laureate, Carol Ann Duffy, to raise the profile of poetry in schools.

Camilla is expected to read one of her favourite verses as she launches the Anthologise project - a competition in which groups of pupils will compile their own collections.

The winning team will see its oeuvre published by Picador in 2013 while its school will receive a visit from the Poet Laureate.

Launching the project at Alexandra Park School, in Haringey, north London, the Duchess will meet students taking part in literary workshops and members of the contest's judging panel.

She will also listen to poetry recitals by children from a number of schools.

A keen reader, she hopes to promote a similar enthusiasm among both children and adults.

Anthologise has been devised by the Poet Laureate to encourage wider reading, appreciation and enjoyment of poetry among school children.

The competition is aimed at groups of any size from British secondary schools.

Camilla is patron of the National Literacy Trust, an independent charity established in 1993 which aims to transform lives through literacy.

She is also patron of the Wicked Young Writers' Award, which was established to recognise excellence in writing, encourage creativity and help develop talent in young people.
