St Andrews University Follows Edinburgh And Sets Top Tuition Fees

St Andrews Joins Edinburgh With £36,000 Tuition Fees

St Andrews University has matched the University of Edinburgh by announcing a degree will cost students £36,000.

Despite the outrage over Edinburgh's decision, which was revealed on Tuesday 6, the university Prince William attended will now rank as one of the most expensive places to study at in the UK.

Robin Parker, president of the National Union of Students (NUS) Scotland expressed anger on behalf of the students who would be affected by the fees.

"Another Scottish university principal has failed their students", he said.

Describing St Andrew's new title as one of the most expensive universities as a "shameful distinction", he added the university was shamelessly cashing in on students in a "farcical battle".

"St Andrews and Edinburgh are making it clear to students from the rest of the UK it's not their academic ability, but the size of their parents bank accounts, that really matters.

"It is now perfectly clear some principals could not be trusted with the responsibility of setting fees. They have let down students, the government and Scotland's education tradition."
