Brad Pitt Laments 'Pathetic, Uninteresting' Existence' Before He Met Angelina Jolie

Pitt On Marriage To Aniston: 'Trying To Pretend It Was Something It Wasn't'

UPDATE 16:30pm: Brad Pitt has spoken out to clarify his comments regarding his marriage to Jennifer Aniston, since giving an interview to Parade Magazine lamenting his "uninteresting" existence prior to meeting Angelina Jolie.

"It grieves me the way this was interpreted," he has said in a statement. "Jen is an incredibly giving, loving and hilarious woman who remains my friend.

"It is an important relationship I value greatly.

"The point I was trying to make is not that Jen was dull, but that I was becoming dull to myself - and that, I am responsible for."

Pitt had earlier this week broken his long silence on the love triangle that continues to overshadow anything he, partner Angelina Jolie or ex-wife Jennifer Aniston ever attempt on the big screen.

Pitt made some candid admissions during an interview with Parade Magazine that his life was "far less interesting" while he was married to Aniston, in fact, he describes how he felt increasingly "pathetic" during the 1990s, before his infamous on-set meeting with Jolie.

The actor spoke miserably of how "I spent the '90s trying to hide out, trying to duck the full celebrity cacophony.

"I started to get sick of myself sitting on a couch, holding a joint, hiding out. It started feeling pathetic.

"It became very clear to me that I was intent on trying to find a movie about an interesting life, but I wasn't living an interesting life myself.

Regarding his relationship with Aniston, he added: "I think that my marriage had something to do with it. Trying to pretend the marriage was something that it wasn't."

Pitt's comments come as a surprise now because, for years, all interested parties have held their gracious silence on Hollywood's biggest divorce scandal since Eddie Fisher left America's sweetheart Debbie for his best friend's widow Elizabeth Taylor.

There were a few well-aimed arrows from Jennifer Aniston, when her A-lister husband first left their sun-kissed Californian love nest for the more gothic charms of Jolie.

Aniston described Pitt as "missing a sensitivity chip" and Jolie's actions as "uncool", but that was years ago, and it seemed 'Brangelina' were far too busy bonking, breeding and becoming the world's highest-profile humanitarians to notice such trivial barbs anyway.

In the six years since they first paired up on a movie set, Hollywood has become an increasingly insignificant pit stop in their glamorous global fiefdom.

And it seems Pitt couldn't be happier with his new setup, glowing with praise with the mother of his six children.

"One of the greatest, smartest things I ever did was give my kids Angie as their mom," he added.

"She is such a great mom. Oh, man, I'm so happy to have her."

And describing his situation now, the star added, "I put much more emphasis on being a satisfied man. I'm satisfied with making true choices and finding the woman I love, Angie, and building a family that I love so much."

"A family is a risky venture, because the greater the love, the greater the loss. That's the trade-off. But I'll take it all."

Aniston has had a bad week in all, recently rushing to the hospital bedside of her mother, who had suffered a serious stroke. The actress was seen out and about in New York last night with new beau Justin Theroux, but has yet to add her tuppence to a story that will no doubt continue to enthral the fans of all three for a long while yet.
