A teenager is in a critical condition in hospital after the stolen vehicle he was travelling in crashed during a police pursuit, Cumbria Constabulary said.

The 19-year-old was inside a black Vauxhall Corsa with two other men when the driver lost control and left the road close to Grange-over-Sands golf club in Lindale, south Cumbria, at around 12.24am on Saturday morning.

The car was being pursued by officers after being reported stolen following a burglary at a property in Lancaster.

Another man inside the vehicle was hurt and taken to the Royal Lancaster Infirmary with the seriously injured teen.

The third occupant of the car, aged 20, was uninjured and arrested at the scene on suspicion of aggravated taking a vehicle without consent. He is being held in custody. All men are from the Lancaster area, police said.

Investigators have closed off the section of road where the collision took place to clear the scene and gather evidence.

Any witnesses to the crash or the pursuit should contact Cumbria Constabulary's Roads Policing Unit on 0845 33 00 247.

This is an odd headline. He is not ill he was injured. Ill implies a naturally occurring ailment as opposed to an impact caused set of injuries.

I don't understand why those chases are needed. Electronic communication is much faster and less dangerous.
