Remembering Steve Jobs: Top Apple iPod And iPad Ads

Ads that you actually want to watch are just one legacy of Steve Jobs, former CEO and co-founder of Apple, who passed away overnight after a long battle with a rare form of pancreatic cancer.

Jobs changed the music industry with iTunes, and made small portable data stores fashionable with the iPod. Previously, these little drives were only used for storing boring things like accounts. The iPod's interface and pretty colours made them sexy.

Part of the excitement about this product was the advertising surrounding it. The music that accompanied each ad was iconic of the era, as were the strong, graphic colours.

Being chosen for placement in an iPod or iPad ad was a great windfall for any artist, or rights holder. Many have gone on to greatness, like Chilly Gonzales, who most recently has been working with Feist in Paris. Others simply fell by the way side. The band Jet who provided Are You Gonna Be My Girl have been eclipsed by their performance on this ad, and seem to have dropped off the radar.
