Teachers and pupils are seeing double after nine sets of twins turned up for the first day of school, and in doing so may have broken a world record.

Assistant head teacher Peter Bamford has contacted Guinness World Records after the siblings arrived at Netherthorpe School, Chesterfield, last week, and hopes his school now hold the title for most twins in the same year.

Bamford said the school had previously educated twins, but "nothing on this scale".

"It's twincredible. We're very proud to have them all with us and they have become a big talking point."

Twins Tom and Max Dungworth and Kirsty and Zach Smith even share the same birthday.

According to the assistant head, the world record currently stands at eight sets of twins and was recorded four years ago.

"It's been like Noah's Ark with twins coming in two-by-two", he added.

Must be a nightmare for the class teachers, they will probably be wanting more pay for the extra stress.
