Suspected Turkish Smugglers Unleash Bees On Police

Suspected smugglers unleashed a swarm of bees on unsuspecting police officers looking smuggled cigarettes, the state-run Turkish news agency reported.

Police officers in the southern Turkish city of Adana were tipped-off that a truck contained contraband cigarettes and sent 15 policemen to search the vehicles.

The cigarettes were hidden amongst beehives so the alleged smugglers set some of the bees free to keep the police away from their illicit trawl. The news agency said the truck was later searched by officers in beekeeping gear, after the initial assault. Eventually, it resulted in the seizure of 32,500 packs of smuggled cigarettes, the Associated Press reported.

The lorry driver and two beekeepers were arrested.
