Johnny English Enjoys Resounding Box Office Rebirth

Rowan Atkinson is no stranger to success, but even he must have been chuffed by his box office figures for Johnny English Reborn over the weekend.

The spoof spy thriller sequel took £4.96 million over the weekend - hitting the top spot at the UK box office, and securing the highest three-day opening of Atkinson's film career, which may sound faint praise, but does include lucrative offerings Bean, Johnny English and Mr Bean's Holiday.

Johnny English Reborn has given the hapless MI7 agent far more toys to play with than the original. Co-starring with Atkinson are Dominic West, Gillian Anderson and Rosamund Pike, as well as West Wing alumnus Richard Schiff.

When asked at the press conference for this sequel if success would spawn a lucrative long-running franchise, Atkinson raised his eyes to the ceiling and was heard muttering, "Oh god, I hope not." So watch this space.
