Gus Van Sant occupies a unique position in America cinema. With popular hits like Good Will Hunting, Milk and To Die For under his belt, he's also maintained a very individual streak with My Own Private Idaho and Elephant, the latter winning him the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 2003.
His latest film, his first since Milk three years ago, sounds typically visual but also demanding of its audience. In Restless, this year's breakout star, Mia Wasikowska (The Kids Are Doing All Right, Jane Eyre), plays a terminally ill girl who encounters both romance and paranormal visions.
