Nirvana Take On 'X Factor' For Christmas Number 1

Nirvana fans are on a mission to beat the X Factor to the top of the charts this Christmas.

They don’t have a primetime television show that brings in millions of viewers each weekend to help with their cause, but they do have a Facebook page.

And so far their online campaign has garnered 33,000 Likes, from people that want Smells Like Teen Spirit to reach number one, instead of another Simon Cowell funded single.

Currently the grunge icons are the bookies’ fourth favourite to top the Christmas chart, with odds at 6/1.

They come close behind current X Factor favourites The Risk, Janet Devlin and Misha Bryan.

This isn’t the first time a rock band has taken on the huge mega-profitable monster that is the X Factor. In 2009, 90s rockers Rage Against the Machine beat X Factor winner Joe McElderry to the top spot, and it’s fair to say, his pop career hasn’t recovered since.
