Not so long ago, Victoria Beckham was once the ex-Spice Girl with grand illusions of becoming a fashion designer. But somewhere along the line she actually became a fashion designer - and a pretty successful one at that.
Beckham's fashion business generated sales of more than £15 million in the first three months of this year, according to reports in the Daily Mail, and at this rate of growth Ms Beckham would rake in close to £60 million from her fashion business this year.
While countless celebrities have crashed and burned in their efforts to conquer the catwalk - Kanye West being the most recent example - VB has quietly built up a label with all the shrewdness of an experienced businesswoman. Unlike fellow A-listers (Kanye, again), she didn't use her fame and influence to make the biggest noise possible at fashion week and when Victoria showed her debut collection in 2008, she invited a handful of editors at a time to a hotel room and talked them through each piece, giving much credit to her design team. This made short shrift of the who-the-hell-does-she-think-she-is accusations, and in recent seasons her New York Fashion Week catwalk show have gone from car cash curiosity to a genuine hot ticket and her designs are worn by everyone from SJP to Cheryl Cole. We just hope this success isn't causing too many marital problems in the Beckham household - after all underpants come a poor second to a red carpet-worthy fashion empire.
