Police are appealing for witnesses after after a man's burned body was found at the side of the road in Ayrshire, Scotland.

Stuart Walker, 28, was found dead just before 05:00 on Saturday morning having suffered "horrible injuries".

Strathclyde police are looking into reports that he was targeted because of his sexuality.

It has been reported that Walker, who was gay, was attacked and burned after being tied to a lamppost.

Detective Inspector John Hogg, from Ayr CID, said: "Stuart had been out with friends in the Cumnock area earlier during the night and was last seen alive by a family friend near to the fire station in Glaisnock Street around 2.30am hours on Saturday morning - nearly two and a half hours before he was found.

"At this time we do not know if these parties are linked to our investigation or not, so again, any information on that is important.

"Officers are checking CCTV and carrying out door to door in the area and we would encourage anyone with information to approach them or to call Ayr Police Office."

It amazes me that humans can still do this sort of thing to each other. I guess we havent come as far up the evolutionary chain on intelligence as we would hope to believe we are. RIP Stuart Walker You are indeed in a far better place than the world we still live each day. Better than the animals of the Earth, I'm not sure we ever were.

i only wish it surprised me that something like this could still happen. it was just a few weeks ago we marked 13 years since matt shepard was brutally tortured in much the same way. i lost much of my faith in humankind after that happened here. of note wyoming still has no hate crime law to date. stuart walker's ordeal is over but those who called him friend, his family and all those who loved and cared for him will carry the pain of this act for the rest of their lives, so much suffering. i sincerely hope that out of this some small measure of good may come. by good i mean to influence others who too often may have sat on the sidelines when they should have stood up and made a difference. rest in peace stuart if you only knew how many good people around the world would come to be impacted by your life and the events that ended it.

When will people stop the hate? This was another horrible crime. I hope they find the animals that did this and they face swift justice. My sympathy to his friends and family

Seriously. What is the implication?

"Psssht... 'burned', if you could even call it that."

Or is there a more common term for 'burned' that they would have used in the headline?

What don't people get about "no one has the right to take another person's life?" If you are so selfish and self involved to think it is your right to clear the world of what YOU think are the wrong type of people, you need serious therapy. Get it now before you cause any pain and suffering. This man has a family that is changed forever due to some jerk's callous juvenile sadistic WRONG minded actions. I hope they find the criminal/s and throw the book at them. We don't need THAT type of person running loose in society.

This is a horrible crime. I hope that Huffington Post continues to report on the police investigation and that Walker's killer or killers is/are brought to justice.

I hope and trust that the person or persons who did this dreadful act will be caught very soon and punished according to law.

This is just ugly and I hate to think of what he may have had to endure, but people shouldn't start calling it a homophobic killing until they know more.

Anyone remembers a the killing of Matthew Shepard in Wyoming?

Police just confirmed he was not tied to lamppost, and also believe it may not have been random attack. Lamppost rumour was started by locals.
