Asus Eee Pad Wins Stuff Magazine Gadgets Of The Year 2011

Bucking the trend against the gadget industry's feckless Apple adoration, Stuff Magazine has awarded the Top Gadget of the Year to Asus' Eee Pad.

The transformable netbook/tablet hybrid beat Apple and Samsung to take the accolade, which was presented at a ceremony in the heart of cultural London, right beneath the Globe Theatre.

Stuff magazine editor Will Findlater said: "For not just offering a viable alternative to the iPad but adding the versatility of a netbook, the Eee Pad Transformer is a worthy winner. We love wow-factor, but it's an added bonus when it comes with practicality."

Awards were presented in 19 categories which made up a gadget fetishist's ideal Christmas wish list.

Samsung walked away with two awards including Phone of the Year for the Galaxy SII and the TV of the Year award for the Samsung UE55D8000. Meanwhile, the fun and practical Wacom Inkling claimed Best Accessory (watch it in action below) and OnLive won Innovation of the Year for their play anywhere cloud gaming system.

Apple fanboys can stop short of ripping up their latest copy of Stuff though as the company scored a hat-trick of awards. The Apple iPad 2 beat off stiff competition from rivals such as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 for the Tablet of the Year award while the MacBook Air won the Computer of the Year category. Stuff's readers also got their chance to vote and did so with a huge majority to hand the iPad 3 the Most Wanted Future Gadget award.
