Internet Week Europe Begins Next Week

Ed Vaizey To Launch Internet Week Europe Next Week

Ed Vaizey, Minister for Culture, Communications and the Creative Industries will launch Internet Week Europe next week at The Hospital Club in central London and you're invited to give him a piece of your mind.

Addressing a report that called on the government to be more daring with its support for the digital and creative industries, he will speak on whether or not it's a risky business to be in.

Unlike other conferences, Internet Week Europe is open to anyone with a spare £40 (£35 if you tweet about it!) for a full five days of ideas to cram your brain with. You don't have to be industry, media, or wealthy, you just need to bring an interest in the internets.

Fancy absorbing everything you ever wanted to learn about blogging, marketing, social media or even digital archaeology? Then the public chat fest Internet Week Europe at The Hospital Club from Monday to Friday next week is the thing for you.

If you have ever wanted to learn how to blog, our own blogs editor Jody Thompson, will talk you through how to get the most of a Huffington Post blog on Tuesday at 5pm.

Also on Wednesday, take a look back over the history of computers at the Digital Archaeology exhibition. The very first website, "The Project" by Tim Berners-Lee ('91) is shown on the NextCube it was created on.

The first colour Apple laptop will be on show, along with Word.com, one of the earliest and most influential e-zines and home of SiSSYFiGHT, one of the first examples of massively multiplayer online games. It's a veritable bonanza for nerds and would-be nerds.

The week ends with a great big industry knees-up and back-slapping fest at The Lovie Awards. These were announced last week, and recognise the best in digital work from the UK and Europe, just as the Webbie Awards do in the US.

Read the incredibly full Internet Week Europe schedule here and pick your favourite sessions.

Internet Week Europe gives you access to the central London private members club, The Hospital Club, in Covent Garden. Between sessions, you can sip impressive cocktails or catch a spot of sun on the outside deck.
