Philip Gould began working with the Labour party during their slow climb back to power. He advised the party on polling and strategy during their unsuccessful elections in 1987 and 1992, as well as during the victorious 1997, 2001 and 2005.

His death at the age of 61 led to tributes pouring in from Labourites old and new. But where are the key players from the Labour party in 1988 now?

Some, like Jack Straw and Gordon Brown remain MPs. Others have sadly passed way, or left politics altogether.
