Rock stars, royals and footballers have been named among a list of all-time great British rebels, according to new research.

A survey of 2,000 adults found that Henry VIII topped the poll, with other top 10 rebels including singers Ozzy Osbourne and Sid Vicious, ex-footballer Vinnie Jones, and Guy Fawkes.

The most rebellious woman was named as Elizabeth I, while the most rebellious song was said to be Steppenwolf's Born To Be Wild.

Most of those questioned in the study by Sailor Jerry rum said that being a "goodie two shoes" did not help them progress in life, agreeing that taking chances was the best way to get ahead.

One in four women admitted they were attracted to men with a rebellious streak.

Historical player of six wives fame, Henry VIII also found the time to break off from Rome and set Britain on a religious path away from the rest of Europe by founding an English church. A sure vote-winner for Eurosceptics.

How can two absolute monarchs be considered 'rebels' in the strict sense of the word?

Ditto Vinnie Jones, he was just a thug. Football has plenty of rebels, Brian Clough and Roy Keane to name just two - how does a non-talent like Jones get in?

James Bond? Barring the fact that he's fictional, he's the very epitome of an privileged Establishment figure.

Do people actually know what a rebel is? It seems they're confusing it's meaing with simple bad behaviour.

Seems to be a lack of education...even this barely educated donkey from the west of Mayo can name Wat Tyler, Jack Cade, Wolfe Tone, William Wallace and maybe half a dozen more if I put my mind to it.

Well my vote would have gone to Guy Fawkes...I don't see how a sitting monarch who snuffed out his adversaries can be considered a rebel.

Only two of his wives were executed. One he divorced, one marriage was annulled without consummation, one of his wives died of illness and one survived him as a widow. More like a serial marrier than killer.

Not just his wives were killed during his reign...a good number of political and religous adversaries were similarly executed....still not sure if I would call the head of a Monarchy a rebel.
