Strange Chinese Grid Patterns On Google Earth Prompt Conspiracy Theories (Pictures)

Mystery gridlines in the Chinese desert that were captured by Google Earth have spawned wild and worrying conspiracy theories.

Labyrinth-like, the pictures depict apparently man-made structures that look like thick white lines visible from space. Others show circular swirls, with jets surrounded by military trucks at the centre.

The puzzling patterns have prompted the question: What on earth is China up to?

A defence expert has compared the circular grids to Area 51, the American military test base rumoured to be the secret headquarters for examining aliens and UFOs.

Tim Ripley from Jane's Defence Weekly, told the Telegraph: "The picture of the circle looks very like a missile test range, with target and instrumentation set out to record weapon effects. The Americans have lots of these in Nevada - Area 51."

Captured in the Gobi desert in 2007, the structures are isolated, but geographically form a midway point between two test bases.

The Chinese carry out secret aircraft testing at Ding Xin military airbase, comparatively close to the desert location at 400 miles away. To the other side lies Lop Nur, the site where China tested nuclear bombs between 1967 and 1995.

Another theorist suggested the grid mapped out the exact replica of Washington DC's city plan, provoking fears of a different kind of an invasion. The street plans might be used as simulation practice for Chinese missiles.

The region is already used for a China's space centre, carried out only 100 miles away in Jiuquan. As speculation continues, have your say on the mystery pictures in the comments below.

Obviously the Chinese government has out sourced the building of their new Inter-province Highway system to Haliburton.

I flew over China in 1997 and you could easily see these and similar along with a pipeline running for hundreds of miles. Nothing new, nothing secret if their flight paths go over them.

1) First picture is a : "GOOGLY-MOOGLY," for sure !
No it is a : "GooGLY-MOOGLY-GooGLY-DooDO- BASE."
2) The second picture was caused by me. I was digging a hole on the Jersey Shore. I was a kid in 1966 when my dad told me : "SON your gona mess-up CHINA if ya digg any deeper! "
3) Third picture is a top secret Fart-A-tron (F.A.T.). The gathering for China-green energy. As huge population shifts take place there is lots of gas to harness. Very interesting shades of blue were caused by someone lighting a smoke during collection, Oh the flash in the sky...:-) could be seen as far away as kona, Hawaii. "DA-KINE" green Flash was reported there when the sun sets.
Mystery solved, have happy day!

Numerous questions, too little expertise

These seem to look like a target range of some kind, possibly also used in some way for the space program. On some other sites, some of these features are an eerie shade of blue. Very interesting. Google is awesome.

The Chinese expect 30% of their population to move from rural to urban environments over the next 30 years. That is about 420 million people, more than exist in North America. It has taken us 200+ years to build our homes and supporting services. Some of the patterns look like the roads for cities or subdivisions. It makes sense that there would be a major military post out there. Perhaps this is how a country with an extremely large population handles major projects like huge population shifts.

It takes long term planning, committment and action to complete such projects. Say how is the recovery in NO coming?

The Chinese pay a dozen workmen (ten dollars a day for a week or two) to make these patterns in the dirt.

The rest of the world's intelligence services then pay hundreds of analysts a hundred dollars a day for months, plus redirect spy satellites etc, to try and make sense of it.

Just a theory!

A good theory though. Many people think the Chinese don't have a sense of humour. They do, but it's a subtle one - usually with a purpose behind it, other than just to amuse.
