Nokia Lumia 800: Windows Smartphone Hits The High Street

Nokia's Lumia 800 Launches In The UK

The Nokia Lumia 800 finally hits the shops on Wednesday, offering smartphone fans a genuine alternative to the iPhone. At least that’s what Nokia are hoping…

The handset, the first from Nokia to run Windows software (Windows Phone 7), has been built with social networking at its core, offering one-touch access to LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook - all at the same time.

The operating system, allied to Internet Explorer 9, ensures impressively fast web browsing, while the on-board MS Office suite offers access to Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

The high-end smartphone also has a 3.7-inch touchscreen, an 8-megapixel camera and 16GB worth of memory.

"Windows Phone 7 hasn't seen many new handsets in 2011, but Nokia breathes new life into the platform, bringing with it eye-catching design and a great screen,” Chris Hall, editor of tech website Pocket-Lint told The Huffington Post UK.

“Nokia and Windows Phone fans should rejoice as the Lumia 800 is a great handset," he added.

Blogging for the Huffington Post UK, Mathew Hussey called the arrival of the Lumia 800 "a glimmer of silver... in the lining of the enormous raincloud that has sat above the Finnish firm's headquarters in Espoo".

The device costs from £26 a month on contract and is available from Orange, Vodafone, T-Mobile and Three.
