Spectator magazine has been referred to the Attorney General for possible contempt of court over an article written by Rod Liddle about the Stephen Lawrence murder trial.
Mr Justice Treacy asked Dominic Grieve on Thursday to consider if the article is in breach of the Contempt of Court Act 1981. The judge in the Lawrence murder trial said the press could report the referral of the article, which appears in the current issue of Spectator.
The judge asked the jury if any of them had read the issue. When they all shook their heads, confirming they had not he told them explicitly not to read the current Spectator magazine.
Treacy said the same principle applied to the magazine as it did to the internet and instructed to follow his orders.
"I need to make things absolutely certain. If any of you happens to be a subscriber to the Spectator, again, you will not, please, read this week's edition", he said.
The trial of Gary Dobson and David Norris, who both deny murdering Stephen Lawrence in 1993, continues.
